Vicente

Vicente

I am going to do my research project based on my grandpa, Vicente. He was an immigrant who came here in the mid-late 1900s. This picture of him struck out to me the most because I see him as the "guy who made it." He is a hardworking and loved man that brought his family to America. He faced many challenges like being there during WW2 when the Japanese invaded the Philippines to migrating to the US and facing things like the language barrier and discrimination. The topic I really want to focus on is what the meaning of family is to Filipinos and to just learn a little more about my family history

My keywords are : #WW2 #FilipinoMigration #FilipinoCustomes #Family #MeaningOfFamily

There is a plethora of research for Filipino migration and WW2. One good reliable source is my aunt who is my grandpa’s brother and who also experienced WW2. I can read books, use the research commons at my school, watch youtube videos and documentaries, find pictures, and maps to create a timeline.
I want to interview my grandma. Her name was Ascuncion but she changed it to Maria. I believe she was born in 1939. My questions are: How did she meet my grandpa, How did you make your relationship work when you guys were miles apart? 2 of your kids were in America with your husband and 4 were in the Philippines, what was it like to have your family separated? What does family mean to you and what are some major things you have done for the family?

I also want to interview my Aunt Lily. She is my grandpa’s sister. I think she changed her name to Lily but I don’t remember what her given name was. My questions are: Can you tell me about the time the Japanese were in the Philippines? What did you guys do? What was it like to migrate to America? What are some hardships and what made you feel better about being far away from home?
