Final Reflection

Final Reflection  I started off strong in the beginning of the semester. I remember turning in my homework on time and always redoing my essays because I wanted it to be perfect. Coming to class was really hard for me because it was an 8am class. I always came late to my high school classes, sometimes coming in 30 minutes late. The thing about habits, is that is it hard to get rid of. Although that is not a good enough excuse for my tardiness. But, I have gotten way better at coming to class on time in college than in high school and I am proud of myself for that because that is progress. I know I don't speak much in class but I am engaged. I mostly talk in group circles because I feel more comfortable. But I do speak up when I am called and I do attend conferences. I have turned in every major assignment. The inquiry project is incomplete because I forgot to do this final reflection. Ken Yeang and his new ideas for society

Ken Yeang  Ken Yeang is an architect, ecologist, and author. He is best known for his role in building eco architecture which are buildings that reduce environmental impact by using materials in moderation and efficiently taking advantage of the ecosystems, energy, and developmental space.   He has written many books on ecological designs and won 70 awards including the   Malaysian Institute of Architects Gold Medal, the Government of Malaysia Merdeka Award, the Architectural Society of China Liangsicheng Award 2016.   He created the bioclimatic skyscraper which is a tall building that is environmentally interactive because it uses low energy techniques created from data from the site’s climate condition and math.   An example of a bioclimatic skyscraper he has designed is the Menara Mesiniaga in Malaysia.   His bioclimatic designs allows natural ventilation to come in based on the open space design, an enhancement of oxygen based on the plan...

Book review on "The Filipinos"

The Filipinos By Michelle H. Houle Many other Filipinos and I included don’t know much about the history of Filipino immigration. Some have heard stories that were brought down from their grandparents, but that is only one piece of the whole puzzle. The book “ The Filipinos” which is published by Greenhaven Press, gives readers the whole history of Filipino migration to America from the very beginning to the present. Every chapter is written by someone who is knowledgeable about the topic and most of the writers are Filipino. What is amazing about this book are the authors, who are professors, authors, lawyers, former members of Hawaii’s house or representatives, and many more.  Filipino War Bride What I like about this book is that there are personal anecdotes in some of the chapters. Dear Mr. Yeang,  My name is Rhea Estacio and I am a freshman in college. Ever since I was a little kid I dreamt of buildings that were sustainable and eco-friendly because I believed that everything in the world could be used and renewed. In 2nd grade, I remember my teacher was teaching my class about renewable energy and recycling, composting, and trash. I thought to myself, “ this seems so perfect. The earth is giving humanity the ingredients to survive.”, Unfortunately, humans have taken the earth for granted. We tampered with our clean water, killed forests and made some animals go extinct, burned fossil fuels and created greenhouse gasses that assisted in climate change.  Luckily, you, have understood that we shouldn’t fight with nature, but build and live with it.The way you utilize the earth to create buildings that are sustainable but also modern is really inspiring to me. Vicente  I am going to do my research project based on my grandpa, Vicente. He was an immigrant who came here in the mid-late 1900s. This picture of him struck out to me the most because I see him as the "guy who made it." He is a hardworking and loved man that brought his family to America. He faced many challenges like being there during WW2 when the Japanese invaded the Philippines to migrating to the US and facing things like the language barrier and discrimination.
